Brief Description of Program:
The Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program is a grant funded program (funded by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Polk County, and the University of Florida) that emphasizes nine major principles that can be implemented in the landscape. The principles include: right plant, right place, water efficiently, fertilize appropriately, mulch, attract wildlife, control yard pests responsibly, recycle, reduce stormwater runoff, and protect the waterfront.
Your yard is the first line of defense so taking important steps in creating and maintaining your landscape is critical in preventing further destruction of Florida's natural resources. To find out more about this program or other Florida-friendly approaches to an attractive, healthy landscape contact the program coordinator.
