Florida-Friendly Landscaping Yard Recognition

The Florida-Friendly Landscaping yard recognition program is for homeowners and businesses interested in obtaining recognition for their Florida-Friendly efforts.

Yards are evaluated based on a checklist  of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ practices. By meeting the minimum requirements and collecting at least 50 points, you can have a Silver Florida-Friendly Yard. If you go beyond that, you can achieve the higher Gold level of recognition. Owners of Florida-Friendly Yards receive a sign to display in the yard and a certificate.

If your home has a Florida Water Star certification you may already qualify for Florida-Friendly Yard Recognition. Learn more about the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ / Florida Water Star Partnership.

Builders and developers are also encourage to apply using the new construction, multi-family and commercial checklist.  It may be helpful to print the checklist prior to construction so that you can design landscaping and irrigation for your project following the FFL principles.  Contact the FFL office and we can help you properly plan your landscape and irrigation design.

Florida Backyard Landscapes for Wildlife

The Florida Backyard Landscapes for Wildlife Program is administered by the Florida Wildlife Extension and will help you landscape your property to be more appealing to birds and other wildlife.

This program includes information on how to design a wildlife refuge in your yard. Using detailed descriptions of your current or planned landscaping, we will provide tips on how to better attract desired wildlife species in your yard. If you own or rent a residential property with at least 10 square yards that can be landscaped for wildlife, you can join the hundreds of Florida residents participating in the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program.

This program is being offered through a cooperative agreement between the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Wildlife Extension. The Florida Wildlife Extension is part of the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation in the Institute for Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida.

Upon completion, you will receive a personalized certificate and yard sign in recognition of your concern and efforts to provide food and cover for wildlife.
