Partnership with Indigent Health Care


As a partnership with the Indigent Health Care Division and the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County, the Family and Consumer Sciences position offers a variety of chronic disease prevention and management classes to the Polk HealthCare Plan members as well as the greater Polk county community.


Free Diabetes Management Classes 

Did you know that 14.2% of adults in Polk County are diagnosed with Diabetes? Even more are pre-diabetic or don't even know that they may be at risk or already have the disease. Learn more at our free class taught by Andrea Nikolai.


Interested in holding classes at your site?

If you would like classes offered at your site, please contact Andrea Nikolai at (863) 519-1072 to arrange a schedule for your organization.

Classes can be held at the Risk Management Building, the UF/IFAS Polk County Extension office in Bartow or at your site.


The Polk HealthCare Plan is administered by the Polk County Government's Indigent Health Care Division.

The Nutrition Education Program is a collaboration between Polk County Board of County Commissioners and University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension. Funding is made possible by a voter approved county-wide half-cent indigent health care sales tax.
