Florida LAKEWATCH

Florida LAKEWATCH is a volunteer lake monitoring program that utilizes volunteers to collect water quality samples on a monthly basis on over 600 lakes, rivers, and streams across the state.

Florida LAKEWATCH is coordinated through the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and the School of Forest Resources: Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. Florida LAKEWATCH exists in the Florida state statutes (Florida Statute 1004.49.) and is now one of the largest lake monitoring projects in the nation with 1800+ trained volunteers.

If you are interested in more information, visit the LAKEWATCH website or contact the program directly using the information on the right hand side of the page.

How do I become a Volunteer?

Visit the volunteer section of the Florida LAKEWATCH website. Once there, read the given information and download the "volunteer training manual". We request that you read the manual, as it will provide you with a better understanding about the necessary commitments and volunteer process.

"The lake I am interested is already being sampled, can I still help?"

Your interest is still very valuable to us. We can place your name on a waiting list for the lake you desire, and if the volunteer of that lake retires we will contact you to confirm your interest in becoming a LAKEWATCH volunteer. At that point, it is your decision as to whether you will continue on to volunteer training.
